Exploring The Sunken City in Epidavros, Greece

When we sail in the Saronic Gulf, we love to snorkel in the ancient Sunken City. These underwater ruins were the home of a bourgeois family, which has been reclaimed by the sea as sea levels have changed in this area over the centuries. The ruins are easily accessible, since they are under only 2-7 meters of water. They’re lit spectacularly by the sun.

Last week, we dropped an anchor here for lunch, took a swim, and then sailed around the bend to anchor in the port of Epidavros for the night. Epidavros has a tiny village and two amphitheaters. One is a short hike through an orange grove, and the other (more famous one) is a short taxi ride.

See our Saronic Gulf Tour to find out what other ports we visit on this sailing route. Come sail with Captain Alex. He’s an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor. Even if you have zero sailing experience, you can take the helm of our sailing yacht, NISI. Captain Alex will coach you and tell you everything you need to know.

See you in the Sunken City!
